Does a high-temperature grease rating prove that the complete bearing unit can operate at that temperature?

Review every relevant component and operating condition

A bearing assembly contains more than its lubricant.

Cage materials, seals, bearing heat treatment and surrounding components can have their own operating restrictions. JTEKT discusses lubricant and cage material selection separately, demonstrating why one product label cannot stand in for the whole assembly. A grease described for high-temperature use also needs its applicable duty and performance conditions understood. The complete operating envelope must be established for the exact bearing and unit. Do not extend the highest temperature printed on one data sheet to every component merely because that material is present in the assembly.

Make a component-limit worksheet for the proposed duty

List the bearing execution, cage, seals, lubricant, housing interfaces and the relevant equipment requirements, with a source for each applicable limit or restriction.

An illustrative grease capability of 150°C would not establish operation at that temperature if another component's capability is unknown. Nor does finding the lowest numerical figure alone complete the assessment: load, speed, duration and other conditions attached to each claim still matter. Mark missing information explicitly and ask the responsible manufacturer or engineer to evaluate the complete duty. The worksheet prevents a lubricant substitution from silently becoming an unsupported approval to operate the entire unit hotter.
