Separate separability from interchangeability

A bearing may be separable for mounting and inspection without every ring and rolling-element set being freely interchangeable.

NSK specifically distinguishes interchangeable cylindrical roller bearing executions from non-interchangeable ones. That is an execution-specific permission, not a general rule for all bearings with removable rings. Mixing components can also destroy the service-history and identification link needed for inspection. Keep parts together and identifiable during dismantling until the exact manufacturer's requirements are known. The important question is whether the proposed combination is expressly covered by that product's specification, rather than whether the components have the same basic dimensions or appear to assemble normally.

Use a parts-segregation record during disassembly

Give each removed bearing position an identifier and retain the associated rings, rolling-element assembly and relevant set information under that identifier.

Record any markings needed to reconstruct the original arrangement, following the approved handling procedure. If a proposal uses a ring from another bearing, ask for the exact interchangeability basis before changing the grouping. State any lost identity as a limitation rather than reconstructing it from appearance. This makes both the reuse decision and the failure examination more reliable because the reviewer can connect each component to its original assembly and service condition. It does not claim that every separable bearing must always be replaced as an indivisible set.
