Describe reversals and dwell as well as total movement

A pivot that repeatedly moves through a small angle does not reproduce every condition of a continuously rotating shaft.

The contacts can revisit limited raceway regions, motion reverses, and dwell or external vibration may be significant. JTEKT distinguishes bearing service-life considerations from the simplified rating-life calculation, while its load guidance requires the actual duty to be understood. Converting total angular travel into an equivalent number of complete turns is only a kinematic calculation. It does not demonstrate that lubrication, contact loading and the relevant damage mechanisms satisfy the assumptions of a continuous-rotation model. Keep these two questions separate in the calculation record.

Prepare the duty description that a specialist can evaluate

Record angular range, cycle frequency, load direction and magnitude, acceleration, dwell time and any motion during transport or standby.

For example, “±10° at six cycles per minute, with long stopped periods” communicates more than “slow rotation.” State whether the load remains in the same direction relative to each ring. Include the lubricant and environmental conditions that may affect the repeated contact zone. Ask the bearing manufacturer or responsible engineer which assessment applies to that duty. Do not report a standard L10 number merely because an angle-to-revolutions conversion is possible; the model's applicability is a separate conclusion requiring evidence.
